Auditions

For our auditions we sent out an email to all college students openly inviting all students to act in our children's TV show. When people replied, we arranged to meet with them one on one to discuss the acting role with them and to have them audition so we could decide whether or not they would be suitable for the role.

We also created an audition form for the actors to fill out, including their name, contact details, etc. making it easier for us to contact them for filming. In the audition form we also asked for consent to use these video clips and photos of them in our coursework, which they could request to withdraw at any time if required. We received over 30 completed forms which allowed us to effectively cast our characters.

We also debriefed our cast as a way of keeping them informed, here are two examples of this:

By asking our auditionees to rate their preferred roles and whether or not they studied A-level Drama & Theatre Studies, we were able to match up our casting choices in a way which both our team and our actors were comfortable with. We did this as we felt those with less experience acting would appear more natural on camera if they were comfortable with their characterisation choices. By following this procedure and taking close-up shots of their appearances, we were able to cast our actors effectively (see Casting).
